Our Commitment to Our Environment

We strive to operate our midwifery practice with as minimal of an environmental impact as possible.

We are accomplishing this by:

  • Locating our business in the heart of the community we wish to serve and within walking distance of the hospital where we have privileges
  • Furnishing our office with previously owned furniture
  • Purchasing from local businesses and suppliers whenever possible
  • Purchasing energy efficient computers, printers and copiers
  • Purchasing Wind power from the Pembina Institute to run our computers
  • Painting our clinic with the least toxic paint we could find
  • Upgrading the carpet that needed replacing with laminate made from recycled wood fiber
  • Eliminating phantom energy loss by unplugging appliances and electronics when not in use
  • Commuting by bike or transit to the clinic when we are not on call
  • Using post-consumer recycled paper products in our office and staff room
  • Brewing organic fair trade coffee and teas
  • Recycling paper, plastic, glass and cans
  • Composting food waste
  • Using only earth friendly cleaning products in our clinic
  • Using energy efficient lighting
  • Offering our clients email handouts and information as an alternative to providing them with printed paper copies
  • Using linens instead of paper drapes for our client's check ups
  • Using organic cotton receiving blankets for baby check ups instead of disposable plastic pads
  • Providing our visiting babies with earth friendly diapers and baby wipes
