Lisa Sutherland Registered Midwife, IBCLC & Clinic Founder

I was drawn to Midwifery for its family and baby centered approach to pregnancy and birth, along with its commitment to wellness and preventative health care. The care I received throughout my pregnancies and births will forever be a reminder to me of the value of having this wonderful model of care. Along with being a midwife I am a board certified lactaton consultant (IBCLC) and the founder of Bloom Midwives and Bloom Breastfeeding Center. I am a member of the Saint Paul's Hospital Breastfeeding Committee and a Clinical Faculty member of the University of British Columbia. I am also a board member of the Midwives Association of BC and chair both the Finance Committee and the Birth Center Committee.

Prior to becoming a midwife, I lived in Victoria where I received a degree in Women's Studies and Sociology. Following that I worked as a project manager at a non-profit society focused on urban health, food access, and organic agriculture. While working there I had the opportunity to partner with a range of organizations including pregnancy outreach programs, transitional housing projects, community center groups, and diabetes prevention programs. During that time I trained as a doula and as a breastfeeding counsellor. Over the years, I have volunteered at a crisis line, at a planned parenthood clinic, and for a number of grassroots organizations working toward social and environmental change. I also have years of experience working with children - teaching ESL, dance, drama, art, gymnastics, and supporting children with autism to reach their full potential.

I am passionate about providing supportive and compassionate care with the goal of helping to make pregnancy and birth powerful and rewarding experiences.

I will be on leave from Midwifery practice beginning in August.  However, I look forward to continuing to nurture Bloom in the role of Managing Partner.
